Simpson To Face All Twelve Counts

.
LAS VEGAS — O.J. Simpson must face trial on kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges stemming from a suspected sports memorabilia heist, a justice of the peace ruled Wednesday

Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure ruled all charges in the 12-count complaint would remain against Simpson and co-defendants Clarence "C.J." Stewart and Charles "Charlie" Ehrlich.

Simpson's lawyer, Gabriel Grasso, argued it was unclear whether prosecutors considered as kidnapping the act of luring two sports memorabilia dealers to a hotel room — or whether the charge was based on a confrontation that followed.

"This is clearly overcharging," he said.more

I highlight this statement not because I have any sympathy for Simpson, but isn't it the case for just about every prosecution going, be it a guy with three hundred child porn images on his PC being indicted on three hundred separate counts, or numerous cases, not one that springs to mind, of a defendant being charged with some of the most bizarre counts that are somehow only vaguely connected to whatever the main charge might be.

It appears to me that once the cops and the prosecutor have got their claws into somebody it's a case of piling every last charge they can think of onto the poor scmuck. Little wonder the jails are bursting at the seams.

I wonder if he will be found "not guilty" again. Always an excuse and always someone willing to believe it, despite the evidence to the contrary.

Believe it or not, there are pockets of reason here in rural Ohio. They may be small, isolated, and in the minority but they are there. You just have to know where to look for them. Sometimes it is the only thing that keeps one sane. If only there were more.

Degree is in Social Work (clinical). Currently working with ex-offenders and sex offenders. Criminal Justice in this country is insane. Sometimes it seems as though a bunch of monkeys got together and threw shit at a wall and whatever stuck was drafted into our legal codes and policies. Does social isolation work? Nope. Do we know this for a fact? Yep.
Do we use it anyway? You bet. Go USA!! Diligently holding on to ignorance in the face of reason!! I just can't seem to understand some of the ways people think here. Healthcare is in the crapper. People are dying from lack of medical attention. Highest infant mortality rate in the western world, yet noone wants socialized health care. More people in prison than all of Europe combiined and passing laws to increase this number. Several years ago I read a stat that stated 1 out of every 10 adults have been incarcerated. I wonder what that number would be today? We build prison after prison, while people die on the streets with no housing or health care. Our education system is sorely lacking. Kids in Denmark know more about US history than American students. We are behind in math, science and geography/history scores. Instead of revamping the system and incorporating more science and math basics/tutorials we are fighting just to teach evolution. WTF!! I wonder where all of this will end. Are we too far behind? Will people ever get their heads out of their butts long enough to do what needs to be done? A lot of work needs to take place with a lot of people working together. Let's hope they can put the bibles down long enough to do it. HH

Simpson? I very much doubt it.
I did read, when it first went down, that he could have been set up, but even if it was the case he took the bait and is now in the keep net.

Regarding the rest of what you mention, yes the judicial system is the pits and the country is going to the dogs, really not much more I can say.

Bring on the rapture!

This used to be a great criminal blog but it seems to have lost it's direction of late, wandered too far into politics, still worth a look at now and then.

Have you taken any interest in the "missing white girl" Madeleine McCann here in the UK/Portugal?
I didn't pay it much attention until the parents were made suspects in the case now I can't leave it alone. I don't watch soaps on the TV so that's my excuse for indulging.
I'll send you a couple of links if you're interested.
Peace.
