Jesus Loves The Little Children

.
Who dreams them up or have I taken dodgy drugs?

He Has Risen

I saw this at Miss Poppy’s site and I honesty, I don’t know which makes me more uneasy: the cubist enormity of His Holy Staff or the “Go ahead and touch it!” expression on the Lord’s leering face. Jesus loves the little children indeed. Keep those hands in your pockets, Junior, no matter what Mr. Savior says!

While I hope never to enter the Christian home where this switch plate was deemed a suitable complement to the existing décor, I do suppose there is some small payback for that whole inconvenient “mortality” thing in being able to give our Creator erectile dysfunction with simply the careless flick of a light switch! A veteran Dublin police officer could learn next week whether he'll be punished for downloading hundreds of pornographic images while working as the school resource officer at Dublin Scioto High School.

Since October, Officer K.C. Jones, a 17-year Dublin officer and a D.A.R.E. instructor for Dublin schools, has been reassigned to a desk job and ordered not to contact staff members or students at the school.

Jones, 50, had been viewing images that depicted young women dressed as schoolgirls, according to an internal police investigation completed Friday.

The sites included High School Cheerleader and Kinky Catholic Schoolgirls , according to a police report.......

Jones, who had been at Dublin Scioto for four years, visits other schools for D.A.R.E. to educate children about the dangers of drinking and drugs and about dangers on the Internet.more

Dog Chew With a Difference

.

A paralyzed Lexington man was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after he woke to find his dog had chewed off parts of his toes, police said.

The man woke about 9 a.m. at his home on the 1400 block of Bryan Avenue to find that his pit bull pup had "chewed off four tips of his toes," Lexington police Lt. Mario Russo said.

The man was identified by a friend as Terry Smith. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital.

Lexington Animal Control took the dog, China, into quarantine.

Smith may be allowed to take China into quarantine at his home, animal control Chief Nathan Bowling said.

"The animal appears to be in great health, and we have no reason to believe there's any kind of abuse," Bowling said.

Tim Cantrell, who said he is temporarily staying at Smith's home, said he saw the blood on his friend's bed Tuesday morning.

"I realized upon closer inspection that his toes were no longer on his feet," Cantrell said.more

Romanian Priest Jailed For Exorcism Murder of Nun

.

I don't know who was in charge of casting but they got it so right with this bugger.

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) -- A former priest began a seven-year jail term Wednesday for murdering a young nun during an exorcism ritual when she was bound, chained to a cross and denied food and water for days.

Irina Cornici, 23, died from dehydration, exhaustion and suffocation during an ordeal that stunned Romania and prompted the Orthodox Church to promise reforms and psychological tests to screen potential clergy.

The former priest, Daniel Corogeanu, and four nuns were all convicted and sentenced in September but Corogeanu was freed pending an appeal, which he lost Tuesday. He was picked up by police in the remote northeast Wednesday and sent to jail.more

Reading About Women's Rights Earns Afghan Journo Death Sentence

.

Ouch! I've just bitten my tongue.

A 23-year old has been sentenced to death for downloading information about women's rights in Afghanistan.

Journalist Pervez Kambaksh was reading about the role of women in Islamic socieites.

But he was accused of blasphemy after he downloaded a report from a Farsi website which stated that Muslim fundamentalists who claimed the Koran justified the oppression of women had misrepresented the views of the prophet Mohamed.

Yesterday the upper house of the Afghan parliament supported the sentence against the journalist, despite an international outcry over the harsh punishment for blasphemy.more

Disaster Coming To A Bridge Near You?

In fact, at least 17,000 bridges in the U.S. went more than two years between safety inspections, according to federal records analyzed by msnbc.com.

These newly released records from the National Bridge Inventory include inspections through 2006. Although Congress in 1971 ordered rigorous standards for inspecting bridges every 24 months, the records reveal a system in which the buck is passed down from federal to state to local governments, without penalty for those that fail to protect the public.more

Blog News

.

.
I was more than grateful from my recent short break from blogging, it gave me some time to reflect over the past year and what direction I might take for this second year.

The thought of carrying on in the same vane, IE reporting day after day about all the shite that goes on in this world doesn't fill me with joy, so for now I am going to go off on a tangent and report the more outlandish and hopefully humorous happenings around villiage.

I shall still throw the odd bit of serious stuff in now and then and will always report on "women in Islam" when I come across it, but for now I am going to join the "Red Tops" (tabloids)

I 35 "The Highway of Holiness" Could Be, Only In America

.

.
Well kiddywinks I've just been having a "You're fucking kidding me" moment (Bill Maher clip) not surprisingly when you consider what I have just been reading.

What can I say but, buggerdy fuck! Only In America!

MINNEAPOLIS — For many drivers, it's an efficient north-south route across the state, but for a number of Christians across denominations, Interstate 35 is a holy stretch of asphalt leading to divine salvation.

Some believe I-35 might be shorthand that links the interstate to Isaiah 35:8 of the Bible: "And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not pass over it, and fools shall not err therein."

While some believe the interstate is literally a road to enlightenment and a detour from sin, others say the link is a wildly skewed interpretation of Scripture at best and ridiculous at worst.

What proponents of the idea call "The Highway of Holiness" cuts a swath straight through the Midwest from Duluth, Minn., to Laredo, bisecting the country and kissing the Mexican border. The road's prominence through the country's heartland lends more apple-pie credence to the belief.

Worshippers in churches across the United States and abroad prayed nonstop for 35 days from late October to early December as part of the "Light the Highway" movement led by a Texas ministry.

The goal, believers said, was to pray for the overall betterment of the country, forgiveness of personal and collective sins and closeness with God.more

Rednecks, Dontcha Just Love 'Em

A sister of one of three people killed early Friday in Louisville said it "really isn't a shock to any of us" that her brother died in a high-speed crash.

"The thing that really makes me feel much better about this is they died doing what they loved to do — they were drinking, they were going fast and they were together," Lorie Flaherty said. "It gives me comfort, it does, to know those three things."

Her comments, first published in the Daily Camera over the weekend, set off a firestorm of comments on the newspaper's Web site.

Inside his small room at his parent's Lafayette home, Michael Martin Flaherty decorated the walls with model cars he built, autographed photos of race car drivers and a poster above his bed of the man his father said he idolized, the late NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt.

Fast cars were what Flaherty, 21, was all about, his family said Saturday, which is why they aren't all that surprised that's how he and two of his closest friends -- Lucas Raymond Snyder, 21, and Amber Dawn Kowalski, 23, who each shared that penchant for speed -- died early Friday when the car they were traveling in crashed at more than 100 mph into a light pole at the corner of McCaslin Boulevard and West Cherry Street in Louisville.more

A 37-year-old Lower Windsor Township man is charged with using electricity to shock his wife in what police describe as some "bizarre sex" that killed her inside the bedroom of their southern York County trailer.

Toby Taylor, 37, of the 100 block of Oak Leaf Court, was charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.

Late Wednesday night, police say they responded Taylor's home in the Restless Oak Village mobile home park for a reported electrocution that turned into a cardiac arrest.
Upon arriving, police found Kirsten Taylor, 29, unconscious and began to perform CPR. She was taken to York Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m., according to the coroner's
office.

During the investigation, police discovered Toby Taylor attached alligator clips on the end of a stripped electric cord which he attached to her breasts, according an arrest warrant affidavit. He would then use the off and on switch on a power strip to shock his wife, according to court records.
The jolt of electricity is believed to have triggered the heart attack, said Police Chief David Sterner.

"This was some bizarre sex," he said.

An autopsy conducted at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center Thursday listed the cause and manner of death as pending, said York County Coroner Barry Bloss. A final determination awaits further testing of the electrical equipment used on the victim and a toxicology test, he said.

Kirsten Taylor had several visible burns to her body, including her breasts, which clearly indicated electrocution, he said.

After he was taken into custody, Toby Taylor claimed he used electricity to sexually arouse his wife and himself in performing previous sex acts, Bloss said.

"This was bizarre sex. Some people would say this was perverted sex. I have never seen anything like this before," Bloss said.

Bloss said Sterner said even if Kirsten Taylor consented to the use of electricity, Toby Taylor should be charged because his action showed a reckless disregard for human life.

"Even if you did it before, you have to know you could kill someone," Bloss said.
Sterner said Toby Taylor also lied to police and tried to conceal evidence after his wife lost consciousness. He said that he initially blamed a hair dryer for the injuries and dressed her naked body.

"If this was an accident, he obviously went too far," Sterner said.

Naughty Naughty Mister Censor Man

.

The Salt Lake Tribune. The man who used to run a business editing sex and profanity from movies has been arrested in Orem on suspicion of having sex with underage teenage girls.
Police on Friday arrested Daniel Thompson, 31, and another man. Two 14-year-old girls needed money and decided to offer sexual favors, police said.

A third girl put them in contact with one of the men and he paid both 14-year-olds $20 for oral sex, police said. Later, the man took the girls to Thompson and the teenagers performed oral sex on him, according to police.

Police said the scheme was exposed when one of the girl's mothers found a $20 bill and asked where it suspicion of sexual abuse and unlawful sex with a 14-year-old.
Thompson formerly operated a business called Flix Club, which edited feature films to remove or alter conduct deemed inappropriate for children or discriminating movie-goers.

Ghost Town USA

This is Shaker Heights, a suburb of Cleveland and a town ravaged by the subprime mortgage crisis roiling the United States.

Faded "for sale" signs sit in front of deserted houses. The residents are gone, either in search of new jobs after the factories shut down, or in shame after being evicted for missing their mortgage payments.

Prison Nation

.

This article was written in December 1998 so it's hardly contemporary even if the problems created by the "Prison Nation" are.

It is a mighty long read but if America the prison nation interests you drive on, emphasis mine.

The Prison Industrial System

The state (California) holds more inmates in its jails and prisons than do France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the Netherlands combined...............

Today the United States has approximately 1.8 million people behind bars: about 100,000 in federal custody, 1.1 million in state custody, and 600,000 in local jails. Prisons hold inmates convicted of federal or state crimes; jails hold people awaiting trial or serving short sentences.

The United States now imprisons more people than any other country in the world—perhaps half a million more than Communist China. The American inmate population has grown so large that it is difficult to comprehend: imagine the combined populations of Atlanta, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Des Moines, and Miami behind bars. "We have embarked on a great social experiment," says Marc Mauer, the author of the upcoming book The Race to Incarcerate. "No other society in human history has ever imprisoned so many of its own citizens for the purpose of crime control."

The enormous increase in America's inmate population can be explained in large part by the sentences given to people who have committed nonviolent offenses. Crimes that in other countries would usually lead to community service, fines, or drug treatment—or would not be considered crimes at all—in the United States now lead to a prison term, by far the most expensive form of punishment. "No matter what the question has been in American criminal justice over the last generation," says Franklin E. Zimring, the director of the Earl Warren Legal Institute, "prison has been the answer."more

Padilla And The Bush Administration: Paul Craig Roberts

.
Right kiddywinks, holipegs over back to doing a bit of blogging.

First up Paul Craig Roberts looks at the Trial of Jose Padilla and some of the laws and injustices that surrounded the case.

You may think you have read all there is to read about this abomination but you haven't and Roberts is worthy scribbler and takes a look at what Padilla was tried for; thought crimes, no more no less.

Padilla trial highlights Bush Administration's manipulation of justice

........Padilla was convicted on all counts. In handing down a 17-year sentence, US District Judge Marcia Cooke denied the prosecutors’ request for a life sentence and observed: “There is no evidence that these defendants personally maimed, kidnapped or killed anyone in the United States or elsewhere.”

Under Blackstonian law, the basis of the US Constitution, the Padilla case has no crime and no intent to commit a crime. Judge Cooke vaguely recognized this, but US law has been pushed off its Blackstonian basis and is being reconstructed on a Benthamite basis.

Benthamite law is the great ally of tyranny. It permits people to be arrested on the suspicion that they might commit a crime in the future, to be tortured, and to be held indefinitely. In other words, suspicion leads to imprisonment without the check of warrant, judge, trial or jury.

This is the law that the Padilla case has given us. Padilla, an American citizen, was denied habeas corpus, tortured, and convicted of the Benthamite crime of being suspected of possibly committing a real crime in the future. The fact that judge and jury went along with the Benthamite proceeding shows that Benthamite justice can operate within the old Blackstonian process.more

Just Say No Kiddywinks

.
Although this problem is nothing new this post makes a good companion for the previous article.

These sanctimonious gits are a danger, a real danger, they need to place their views on contraception between the pages of their Bibles and stick up there pious sphincters.

And they wonder why teenage pregnancy is so high and what did surprise me looking at the little chart that is with the article is that the pregnancy rate in the US is nearly twice that of the UK, I only say this because it seems every second fifteen year old you see on the street over here is pushing a pram.

All I need now is for there to be a Purity Ball in the news then we have the three card trick.

Chastity pressed on US teens
America's chastity movement may have lost one of its most famous role models after unmarried teen queen Britney Spears - for years a self-proclaimed virgin - divulged some of her more intimate secrets to a magazine.

But whatever the extent of Miss Spears' one-time contribution to the no-sex-before-marriage camp, it pales into insignificance against that of its now most famous benefactor - President George Bush, who has massively increased funding and support to the abstinence movement during his three years in office.

The movement has expanded from a collection of disparate groups into a centrally funded drive that seeks to tackle the country's teenage pregnancy rate - one of the highest in the developed world - by telling young Americans that contraception does not work and that the only safe sex is no sex..........

Under the terms of the multi-million-dollar fund which have been made available under President Bush for abstinence education, schools and groups can only claim federal money for sex education programmes if the classes have as their "exclusive purpose" the promotion of abstinence.

They must make clear that sexual activity outside of marriage is harmful, both mentally and physically. If contraception is mentioned, it must only be in the context of its fallibility.

The state of Louisiana, for example, has abolished all programmes providing what is known as comprehensive sex education - classes which give students information about contraception and abortion in addition to encouraging them to wait before entering into a sexual relationship.more

Buttocks A $1.4 million Fine And Only In America

.
America you are one fucked up sexually repressed hypocritical nation, a bum or a breast aren't obscene, invading countries and bringing death and misery to millions is obscene, dropping bombs on people that's obscene, having an unacceptable level of poverty and infant mortality is obscene, but tits and arses! stop please.

And to say nothing about the size of the fine, stroll on!

US network faces $1m nudity fine

US television network ABC may have to pay a fine of $1.4m (£707,000) for airing an episode of NYPD Blue which depicted female nudity.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said the 2003 show had "multiple, close-up views" of a woman's buttocks before the US watershed.

The FCC deems "sexual or excretory activities" shown in an "offensive" way before 2200 as indecent.

ABC has rejected the claims, saying the buttocks are not a sexual organ.

The proposed penalty has been imposed on all 52 of ABC's stations who broadcast the episode.

Indecency battle

The scene in the police drama, which ran from 1993-2005, shows a boy surprising a naked woman as she prepared to take a shower.

The FCC said it received several complaints about the sequence, which also showed one of the woman's breasts.

An ABC spokeswoman said that the programme was broadcast with parental warnings and that "the realistic nature of NYPD Blue's storylines was well-known to the viewing public".

The broadcaster has said it will appeal against the decision, which is the second largest indecency fine imposed on a broadcaster.

In 2006, the FCC imposed a $3.6m (£1.8m) against CBS for an episode of Without A Trace, which was settled for $300,000 (£152,000).

The FCC has waged a battle against TV indecency in recent years, with the US authorising a huge increase in fines.

Janet Jackson's breast exposure during the 2004 Super Bowl on live TV prompted the organisation to impose a fine of $550,000 (£278,000) on 20 CBS-owned TV stations.

The network has been embroiled in a long-running court battle against the penalty.source

And Barely A Whimper At That: Jose Padilla

.

Who's next? emphasis mine.

Why Jose Padilla's 17-Year Prison Sentence Should Shock and Disgust all Americans

The news that US citizen Jose Padilla has received a prison sentence of 17 years and four months should provoke outrage in the United States, although it is unlikely that there will be much more than a whimper of dissent............

As if this were not worrying enough, it was what happened after Padilla's 43-month ordeal that sealed the president's impunity to torture US citizens at will. When it seemed that his case was within reach of the US Supreme Court, the government transferred him into the US legal system, deposited him in a normal prison environment, dropped all mention of the "dirty bomb" plot, and charged him, based on his association with two alleged terrorist facilitators, Adham Amin Hassoun and Kifah Wael Jayyousi, with participating in a Florida-based plot to aid Islamic extremists in holy wars abroad. When the case came to court last summer, the judge, Marcia Cooke, airbrushed Padilla's torture from history, insisting that it could not be discussed at all, and, after a trial regarded as farcical by many observers, Padilla and his co-defendants were duly found guilty.more

What A Day Of Shame: 17 Years For Padilla

.
I'm going to bed.

A US citizen held for more than three years without charge as an "enemy combatant" was today sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison for conspiring to murder, kidnap and maim overseas, including in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Bosnia.

Jose Padilla, a 37-year-old Muslim convert, was originally arrested in 2002 and accused of planning to detonate a radioactive "dirty" bomb and blow up buildings in Washington, but he was never charged in relation to those alleged offences.

In 2005, he was added to the case of two other men accused of supporting terrorism just as the US supreme court was considering his challenge to George Bush's decision to hold him in custody indefinitely without charge.

District judge Marcia Cooke today said she was giving Padilla some credit - over the objections of federal prosecutors - for his lengthy military detention at a navy jail in South Carolina.

She agreed with defence lawyers that he was subjected to "harsh conditions" and "extreme environmental stresses" while there.

"I do find that the conditions were so harsh for Mr Padilla they warrant consideration in the sentencing in this case," the judge said.

She also handed down sentences to his co-defendants Adham Hassoun, a Lebanese-born Palestinian, who was jailed for 15 years and eight months, and Kifah Jayyousi, a naturalised US citizen from Jordan, who will serve 12 years and eight months. All three defendents potentially faced life sentences.more
