Frenchman Francis Joyon has smashed Ellen MacArthur's solo round-the-world record by more than 14 days.The 51-year-old finished his circumnavigation in 57 days, 13 hours 34 minutes and six seconds to beat MacArthur's mark set in 2005.
He set off from Brest on 23 November and crossed the finish line on Sunday.
MacArthur congratulated Joyon but has not ruled out trying to reclaim the record one day saying "records are set to be broken".more
