Brothers in Arms

Titled "At Lonely Iraq Outpost, GIs Stay as Hope Fades: U.S. Soldiers Persevere Despite Snipers, Ambush; Fighting for Each Other," the story is a portrait of 50 American troops hunkered down in Tarmiyah, a city of 30,000 Sunnis 30 miles north of Baghdad.

Irrespective of my views on the occupation of Iraq, if you follow this link to Marty Kaplan at the Huffpo and then the link to the WSJ for the article you will be rewarded with a good read on what it's like on the ground for a bunch grunts, not fighting for the greater good of anything, but fighting to stay alive and keep their buddies alive.

Lots of interesting posts, as usual. I love the abstinence only campaign! It is doing wonders with teen pregnancy rates and STD incidents. Just say NO! Say no to drugs, sex, and rock and roll! If only the hormone ridden population would just get with the program.

And women swimming in yards of fabric! I guess it is ok as long as the robes do not float up and offer a glimpse of ankle. It would be tragic in deed if an impressionable youth saw this sort of vulgar display. We must, after all, protect children and women. HH

Hello H my faithful reader, thank you for your kind words.
It's hard to say who's the most repressed the brown fundies or the white fundies. Different things I suppose, with the brown fundies it's more a case of misogyny and power I would say, and the white fundies, they truly are totally repressed.
If they took their god and sin and creationism out of the equasion and looked at through the eyes of evolution they would come to realise that kids have raging hormones for a reason, it's natures way of saying plant and be planted with seed while you are young fit and virile, propagate the spieces.
This denial that kids have sexuallity at early ages is just too much for them to come to terms with. I've seen young kids display more seuality than some grown women will acheive in a lifetime.
Chalk another disaster up to religion.
I got myself a new computer yesterday so I am still playing about a bit, lots of new features and still trying to find some of the old ones, as in where has the spellcheck as you type feature gone from Firefox, in spite of my love of writing I am an awful speller.
It's a public holiday today, Mayday a celebration of our socialism, what's left of it.
Be good.
