In case you were wondering, this is what the Leveson inquiry is about. http://bit.ly/bPcHJs
It is important to keep in mind what the Leveson Inquiry is about. We gave evidence to the inquiry last year because we don’t want anyone else to suffer as we, our family and the search for our missing daughter did at the hands of our press.
It’s beyond parody, as if the ghost writer is taking the piss out of "Kate".
Remarkably, the Tapas friends didn’t suffer at the hand of "our" press. http://twitpic.com/74jgui

The World’s First Independently Regulated Pantomine, by Oliver Pritchett
From: Leveson In Wonderland
Furry Creature [Robert Jay, senior counsel to the Leveson Inquiry]: (opening several large volumes) Can we now turn to page 176, paragraph 19 of Nigella Lawson’s Frightfully Naughty Squishy Cakes and also, if you will bear with me, to page 513, paragraph 13 of Jamie Oliver’s Blimey, Let’s Knock Up a Gorgeous Pasty in Under Five Minutes, and furthermore to page 84, sub-section D6 of the evidence previously given by Nigel Slater…
Clare Balding [a jolly good egg]: This is absolutely incredible! The Furry Creature is now attempting to consult five very large books, all at the same time. Can he keep up this thrillingly slow pace?
http://bit.ly/UYWtxI
Also starring Angela Merkel, The Cheshire Cat, Nick Clegg, The Dormouse and many more.
Take a peek at Gonçalo Amaral's book - The Truth About the Lie. Oh, hang on - it's not available in English. Try French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian - you'll find it in most languages. Also, try reading reports of this sad case in non-Brit media. -inglouriouseurotrash
Whilst some of the early tabloid reporting was admittedly excessive, it is nevertheless highly ironic that a man and his wife who have used, and continue to use, existing English law very much to their advantage in preventing the press or anyone else from discussing the very peculiar circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a young child pressing for yet more press restrictions on press reporting... - WorkersUntie
The Mc Canns are a superb example of how much our press is already constrained. Anyone who scratches beneath the surface of their bizarre story will find that what is NOT printed in the papers is quite staggering. I will say no more for fear of deletion but would encourage everyone to seek out some facts. Then perhaps it will become clear just what Dr Gerry's motives are here.
I commented earlier how amazing it was the McCanns releasing a feature which actually allowed for posted comments. Today yet again another reported sighting of Maddy has been released on parent dish and the McCanns have blocked comments. Its very strange is this not to mention this is the 4 sighting in almost as many weeks. At least these claimed sightings is allowing the McCanns to keep it in the press. Where is the next sighting going to be Nottingham.
Just Another Human Being The blatant hypocrasy ! Courting media for your own ends but wanting to gag them when the media write unfavourable articles. Talk about having your cake and eating it ! First and foremost, the most important course of action is to protect freedom of speech. The effect is transparency, democracy and an informed population. The press have uncovered sleaze corruption hypocrasy and illegal acts. The Press must be protected and allowed to carry out investigations and publish the results without fear. Since Leveson, I have noticed that once again the British public is prevented from seeing and reading and commenting on articles that is widely available to the rest of the world. Granted that the press invaded privacy inappropriately in a small number of cases, though I would not include any famous people who have PR agents working on their behalf or people courting publicity.
ebt3 Don't care what others do or don't say, my personal opinion is still that the father knows more than he's letting on. I don't believe she was kidnapped, but i do believe both of the parents being in the medical profession is a significant factor in why no trace of Madeline has been found so far. The father has conceit written into that glassy stare, and i wouldn't trust him as far as i could throw him. This is MY opinion, it may not be right, but then again, it may be!
cynic123 I just can't understand people like these two, they use the press all the time in their quest what ever that is, but don' want any bad press?
steamboats999 I am sure I am not the only one that is sick to death of looking at or reading anything to do with these two. McCann's please go away and stop seeking publicity.
rumson59 The McCann's have raised money in the US to fund the hunt for their daughter. In truth, they are on a political crusade and are now campaigning to change British law. This is incompatible with the "charitable" status they have enjoyed and I feel cheated. I'm writing to the tax authorities in the US and UK to request an investigation.
Rob1415 I fully agree with crocket 53 the Mc Canns were quite happy to get front page spreads in the past but are now turning their backs on the press who tried to help them. And the recent news that they are now trying to locate the cleaners of the apartment is laughable, surely that must have been the first investigation !!. If it had been non " Professional" people on the UK who had left three children alone whilst they were out enjoying themselves they would have lost the remaining children to Social service.
jaybs Hacked Off do not rule our country, even if Hugh Grant seems to be able to control Ed Miliband! All Three Parties should be able to Agree! why did Ed change overnight? another bandwagon!
(...) As for Gerry McCann ill advised jibe at the press for being in the profit business. Oh dear, would this be the same McCann's who have recently netted £1 million from selling their missing daughter's story to a publisher? Yep the very same. As ever with the Hacked Off campaign the stench of hypocrisy follows them where ever they go. Say NO to the rich and powerfuls campaign for press censorship.
Foulkes said he had written to the culture secretary, Maria Miller, to say that Grant's experience did not reflect that of ordinary people innocently caught up in the News of the World's illegal newsgathering operations.
Initially Foulkes welcomed the Leveson inquiry and thought it would re-establish the connection between politicians and ordinary people, but he said the judge "lost his way" once celebrities became involved.
If Hugh Grant feels aggrieved at his phone being hacked then I don’t blame him. If he wants laws that prevent this sort of thing happening again, then I heartily agree with the sentiment. However, someone should probably point out these laws already exist. As do laws for lewd conduct in a public place with $1,180 prostitutes.
The reason they took time to sue, to take legal action, was simply because they had more important things to do, like look for Madeleine, deal with the authorities, their own private investigators, and then...

They strike me as a tad concerned.
I can't see why, nobody takes a blind bit of notice petitions, as well we know.

Amazing. The McCanns releasing a media feature and allowing people to comment. That's very unusual. I wonder why.

All staying on topic, Leveson.
