Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, reacted angrily to concerns raised by the Police Federation about the millions of pounds of public money devoted to the case.
He said: “It’s not for them to decide which investigation we carry out, it’s my decision. This investigation is funded by the government and the only thing that will decide whether or not it continues are the chances of success in finding that girl.
Once again I would stress that I am guilty of having been obedient, having subordinated myself to my official duties...This obedience was not easy. ~ (I'm not even going to bother myself with the name of the person who said that.)
Hannah Arendt wrote about "stupidity". She eventually concluded that the author of the above was not so much a stupid person, as someone bereft of thought. He had no imagination for the extended consequence of his actions.
A banal person: obedient to the remit; thoughtless of the consequence.
Himself, Lol. Thankfully no such fate for Nicola! Just a pension, and maybe some kind of gong - like Redwood got for his PR/communication skills, or whatever it was. Poor kid. They have the front to dish out prizes across her.
Whether they can muster a conscience between them is quite another matter!

There is much in that article, how much is relevant I wouldn't like to say, but an interesting read nonetheless.
The last Q&A however, was the subject of a conversation only yesterday. I shall tweet it on.
Thanks

But I don't think they will take Nicola out and hang her.
Though only thirteen/fourteen at the time, I remember the trial quite well. Wish I could say the same for last week.
