French Set New Rail Speed Record
A French high-speed train (TGV) has smashed the world record for a train on rails by a big margin, reaching 574.8km/h (356mph).
356, that's lickity spit in anybodies book. In fact it's awesome the more you think about it.
Update: I've just done the maths on that, six miles to the minute, a mile in ten seconds.
Nearly as fast as two electricians in an Astra diesel van going home on a Friday night.

Thanks Chuck. The clock displayed in the link could never be accused of being iconic, but I haven't chosen the story for that.
It was only in the last couple of years that I added this to my little bank of knowledge. It seems utterly bizarre to us in this day and age.

The station clock at Carnforth Station in Lancashire See link
Carnforth, not too far up the line from me, was the station where they filmed the railway scenes in David Lean's classic, Brief Encounter.

I've putting the finishing touches to my upgraded "room" and have just ordered twelve "parcels" for £68, which includes four freebies of various varieties.
I shall wait until Enid has done her thing and then start on a new project.

third attempt
Good morning H,
Thanks for bbc.in/OTqKdK link, added to my little bank of knowledge.
The railway was one of the unique contributions Britain had made to world culture, society and economy.

Well chosen music, nostalgic atmosphere in beautiful black and white photography.
I love the atmosphere and the intensity of emotions...

Good luck to Enid, not been dumped after all. Good on you, she’s not an easy aunt (Dutch expression, chuckle).
Best wishes. M xx
Spot the differences.
Good morning my lovely, all noted.
Spot the differences.
Que?
"The various varieties" in my comment attempts, the first two failed by Blogger or whatever. I don't know if you received them, but they're almost identical I think; so "spot the differences" doesn't make any sense, on second thoughts. M

Nice picture (without the snowman).
Do you know its origins? I couldn't find it.
I have made enquiries, let us see.
Thanks for asking H; very helpful answer. I’ve found it, added "desktop wallpaper" (hadn’t thought about that) to other headwords. Made a photo print, 9 x 13 cm. xx

Good morning Maren.
She replied with this, I can't say I'm a lot wiser. But I see you found a source for the pic.
How?
for the rest it's personal. Spent a lot of time like that. Waiting, traveling, etc. Rather fit Churchill's quote and my life so that's why
Hello H, I hope it didn't make her upset, that's not the intention of course. I see she changed her header photo and text. On the bright side, Daydream believer sounds nice, doesn't it. M
I don't know Maren, but I wouldn't worry about it.
There's nowt so queer as folk, as we are fond of saying oop North.
How did you find the original anyway?

but I guess that’s just one of the many possibilities.

Well, there's nowt so queer as folk, I just learnt. xx
Bonjour bonjour,
Google images, I might have guessed, it's not like I haven't spent an hour or two at that game myself.
In the meantime Daydream believer disappeared.
Well, there's nowt so queer as folk.
