Fascist America, in Ten Easy Steps

Guardian Special Report.
An excellent hypothesis, for now?

From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all
.

As difficult as this is to contemplate, it is clear, if you are willing to look, that each of these 10 steps has already been initiated today in the United States by the Bush administration.

Because Americans like me were born in freedom, we have a hard time even considering that it is possible for us to become as unfree - domestically - as many other nations. Because we no longer learn much about our rights or our system of government - the task of being aware of the constitution has been outsourced from citizens' ownership to being the domain of professionals such as lawyers and professors - we scarcely recognise the checks and balances that the founders put in place, even as they are being systematically dismantled. Because we don't learn much about European history, the setting up of a department of "homeland" security - remember who else was keen on the word "homeland" - didn't raise the alarm bells it might have. More.

Kucinich, funny.

Update: Kucinich fans go here.

Update on the update, this from the Cleveland Scene. From the results page searching "Kucinich" where there seems to be hours of reading to be had.
It would appear that fucktard is more commonly known locally as the "Elf" mmm why is my little mind thinking of a spell in photoshop? Just love the bit about his ego.

Speaking of the elf . . .
It looks as if Kucinich will retain his House seat next week, allowing him to continue napping for at least two more years. But his ego, which recently got its own motorcade, may once again awake him from slumber.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel in northern California reported recently that Kucinich swung through the area on a seven-city fund-raising tour, and that the "59-year-old vegan . . . is eyeing the presidency once again."

In case you blocked it out, Kucinich campaigned hard for the presidency in 2004, despite not meeting the federal height requirement. His vanity run wasted more cash than Kirstie Alley at a Hostess outlet shop and made him harder to find in his West Side district than a vegetarian steak joint.

Kucinich hasn't said whether he'll run in '08, and, oddly, he won't return Punch's calls. But the Sentinel -- winner of the 2006 prize for Best Paper to Fashion Into a Joint -- seems to think otherwise. And if anyone should know, it's the people in Santa Cruz, where local activists host year-round Kucinich meetings, and where 8,000 people -- including 7,985 independent-bookstore clerks -- voted for Kucinich in 2004.

I know there are many who will argue that Bush cannot be held accountable for all the items on this list. I disagree. Evil begets evil and death begets death. Bush and his minions are the personifications of both. Bush also personifies the Faustian ideology of selling one’s soul to the devil for a few years of power. What makes Bush especially vile is that, after making this satanic pact, he attempted to allege that “God” placed him into power. More.

Diego Garcia. Chagoans, "They Died Of Sadness"

.
John Pilger exposes the inhumane and shameful actions of successive British Governments in their treatment of the dispossessed indigenous population of Diego Garcia, the main island of the Chagos group.

The film is testimony to just how little people are worth when the "Land of Hope and Glory" colludes with the "Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free" in pursuing global expansion.

The conduct of the British to this day still can only be described as sordid.
Fifty five minutes.

STEALING A NATION (2004) is an extraordinary film about the plight of people of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean - secretly and brutally expelled from their homeland by British governments in the late 1960s and early 1970s, to make way for an American military base. The base, on the main island of Diego Garcia, was a launch pad for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.Stealing a Nation has won both the Royal Television Society's top award as Britain's best documentary in 2004-5, and a 'Chris Award' at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival.

A Sense Of humour InThe Land Of Darkness

Right: Jacko Bahrain.

I stumbled on a defunct site once run by a Saudi National, this was his last post, April 2004.

Temporary Lull

Folks, maybe it's a result of that last terrorist attack, maybe it's just me being paranoid, but i'm seeing a lot more "unusual activity" both out in the town and in the neighborhood. I'm going to lie low. The blog and my email contacts will hibernate for a while. Better safe than sorry. In the meantime, many thanks for your compliments, observations, questions, discussions. Ma'a salaama.

Saudi or not he was a true blogger in every sense of the word, and given his attacks on the Saudi establishment, a brave bloggger at that.
Again, Saudi or not, he certainly has a sense of humour, and here I hope I have the right tense and he hasn't fallen into the clutches of the forces of darkness.
So I shall be lifting stuff direct from his blog and posting it here.

MADINAH, 14 April 2004 — Police in Madinah arrested an 18-year-old man in woman’s dress including a veil in a Madinah shopping center. Al-Madinah reported that people noticed strange movements and felt the person was not walking like a woman. His arms were also noticed to be hairy. People said the person was following women and annoying them. The police were called and they arrested the man saying that he might be mentally ill

The thing about wearing an abaya and a veil, it could be anybody in there. It could be Hulk Hogan. It could be Osama Bin Laden. It could be Clyde, the Orang Utang. Just don't show your hairy arms.

As for the man's mental health, I agree. Any Saudi man who would rather be treated like a Saudi woman, is by definition nuts. Emphasis mine.

No doubt Maher will be putting his inimitable stamp on things, something to watch out for methinks.

The group Answers in Genesis (AIG) says comedian Bill Maher of HBO recently made an unannounced visit to its new Creation Museum in an effort to "mock Christians and creationists." According to a ministry spokesman, Maher chose to circumvent security measures in order to obtain an interview with AIG founder Ken Ham. More

There Is No Such Thing as a Christian Child or a Muslim Child

“There is no such thing as a ‘Christian child,’ there is only a child of Christian parents. Whenever you hear the phrase ‘Christian child’ or ‘Muslim child’ or ‘Protestant child’ or ‘Catholic child,’ the phrase should grate like fingernails on a blackboard.” Dawkins discussing the God Delusion.
A child who may be as young as three or four who is obviously much too young to know what their beliefs are.

That's where the brain washing by the adults comes into play, listen to this three and a half year old Muslim girl who even at this tender age has already been infected with the hatred of her parents and elders, how shameful.

Ninja cop warns Tehran woman over her inappropriate dress

Tehran has issued more than a thousand warnings and arrested dozens in a new drive aimed at forcing women whose dress is deemed inappropriate to adhere to Islamic dress rules, officials said Sunday.
"There were 170 arrests. Of these, 58 were released after making a written commitment and rectifying their appearance. The cases of the rest, who already had a record, were handed over to the judiciary," he said.

"The current situation is shameful for an Islamic government. A man who sees these models on the streets will pay no attention to his wife at home, destroying the foundation of the family," he warned. More.

'Save the Whales' Likely to Attract 2008 Swing Votes

Presidential candidates who take a firm stand against Japanese whaling practices are more likely to gain support from swing voters, a new poll has shown. The poll conducted on behalf of the International Fund for Animal Welfare showed that six out of 10 swing voters would be more likely to vote for a presidential candidate who opposed the Japanese practice of killing whales for research. "A stand against whaling could help candidates in the primaries and in the general election," said Fred Steeper, a principal polling consultant to President Bush's 2000 presidential campaign. He conducted the poll for Market Strategies. More.

How I wish, as much as I would like it to be true, but I think it might be more a case of who loves Jesus the most. Or says he does. I think what we see here is another example of an agenda driven poll.
Years ago I came across a title in a bookshop, "How to lie with statistics" and really it is so easy, and graphs,! don't even think about them, the same stats can be made to look like a steady incline or the side of a mountain, all depending how the scales are calibrated.
You will find various "Whale" posts throughout this blog.

A Million Prison Days

Jerry is 48 years old now. He has lost virtually his entire adult life to a wrongful conviction. And he is the 200th person in the United States who has been exonerated through DNA evidence.
Combined, these 200 people have served about 2,500 years in prison - that's roughly a million nights in prison. More.

And of those executed?

Pray For Alberto Gonzales. (He needs 'em)

Yes roll up and meet Gonzo you little kiddywinks of the Presidential Prayer Team For Kids, Alberto is in the news and needs your prayers, pray away little ones as the adults continue their incessant brainwashing of your tiny minds.

  1. Have you heard people talking about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales? His name has been in the news quite a bit lately because he fired some U.S. Attorneys. Some people in Washington are upset about these firings. They say the firings may have been politically motivated. Since the U.S. Attorneys are under the Department of Justice, the head of that department, Alberto Gonzales, is under fire too. That means this is a fantastic time to pray for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and all those in Washington who seek to investigate these firings, that the truth will come out and God’s will is done in this situation. Pray that people will really want to understand the “right and wrong” of the situation rather than trying to pursue self-serving ends. You can learn more about Attorney General Gonzales as you read on.

God Is Not Great. Cristopher Hitchens

As I have mentioned previously I have never bothered much with Hitchens, no doubt due to his alignment with the neocons, nobody's perfect I guess, but having recently watched him present an argument defending freedom of speech and then listening debate "We'd be better off without Religion." alongside Richard Dawkins I must admit to being more than a little impressed.
So much so I placed my order for his new book this morning, unfortunately it will not be released here in the UK until June Eighth (Amazon) but available Stateside immediately (Amazon)
No doubt I shall be putting in my two bits worth once I have read it, but for the mean time:

From Booklist
*Starred Review* God is getting bad press lately. Sam Harris' The End of Faith(2005) and Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion (2006) have questioned the existence of any spiritual being and met with enormous success. Now, noted, often acerbic journalist Hitchens enters the fray. As his subtitle indicates, his premise is simple. Not only does religion poison everything, which he argues by explaining several ways in which religion is immoral, but the world would be better off without religion. Replace religious faith with inquiry, open-mindedness, and the pursuit of ideas, he exhorts. Closely reading major religious texts, Hitchens points to numerous examples of atrocities and mayhem in them. Religious faith, he asserts, is both result and cause of dangerous sexual repression. What's more, it is grounded in nothing more than wish fulfillment. Hence, he believes that religion is man-made, and an ethical life can be lived without its stamp of approval. With such chapter titles as "Religion Kills" and "Is Religion Child Abuse?" Hitchens intends to provoke, but he is not mean-spirited and humorless. Indeed, he is effortlessly witty and entertaining as well as utterly rational. Believers will be disturbed and may even charge him with blasphemy (he questions not only the virgin birth but the very existence of Jesus), and he may not change many minds, but he offers the open-minded plenty to think about. Airships To Tackle Caracas Crime

The council has bought three mini remote-controlled airships which are soon to be launched to look down on the city monitoring criminal activity.
Steered by remote control from the ground, the balloon ducked and dived above the buildings, its pilot showing how manoeuvrable the machine can be.

Update: From the comments by Bill Arnett a guest poster here.

The entire area surrounding Mindanao and parts south of it in the Philippines (P.I.) has been problematic for the last 30-40 years. Most people don't know that there are over 7,100 islands in the P.I., and the southernmost islands have been a battleground between Catholics (90% of the Population) and the other !0% (Muslims) for decades.

The P.I. is 90% tropical rain forest (they have only two seasons: rainy season from approx. June thru Dec. and dry season from Jan.-June) and for those never having been in tropical rain forest, once you enter and lose sight of the sun you had better know what you're doing or you can easily get lost forever, making it extremely difficult to track and/or find anyone also, the primary reason the "War in Mindanao" has gone on so long.

And as in much of the world beheading is common, though repugnant. After Clark Air Base was established after WWII (the biggest base we ever had overseas, about 850 Sq. mi.) the Negritos, a black pygmy race, used to guard much of the border of the base, at least until authorities found out that their way of dealing with trespassers was to behead them and place the head on a spike as a warning to others not to trespass. (They also helped save our asses from the Japanese using brutal psychological warfare. They would sneak into Japanese camps at night and slit the throats and take the ears of every other soldier sleeping in straight lines and exit without detection. In the jungle these people are apparitions.)

Still, it pains my heart to hear the war continues, as the vast majority of Filipinos are warm, generous, accommodating people that would literally slaughter their last chicken to provide you a meal or send a runner ten miles to fetch ice that they never used to cool your drink.

The Trial of Tony Blair

Television puts Tony Blair on trial

In a new TV drama, the Prime Minister is brought to account over the war in Iraq. James Rampton meets its creators
Tony Blair is hunched over the basin at his posh new home in Connaught Square, central London. He is cleaning his hands with soap – at first gently, then more and more furiously. His wife, Cherie, appears at the bathroom door and watches her husband's actions with increasing horror.
Like a man possessed, he is now scrubbing with a scarily obsessive vigour. Two words spring to mind: Lady Macbeth.
Set in 2010, Alistair Beaton's drama envisages a Britain in which Blair (played with a messianic glint in the eye by Robert Lindsay, who also incarnated the Prime Minister in A Very Social Secretary) has finally and very reluctantly ceded power to his arch-rival, Gordon Brown (Peter Mullan).
This Blair is fixated on securing his legacy, declaring that "The world needs me, as Britain once needed me. But I've done Britain, Britain's sorted. I've outgrown Britain. I need a bigger stage now."

But his obsession with establishing his place in history blinds the former prime minister to something much more serious: the imminent threat of being indicted on war crimes charges in the Hague for leading his country into an illegal conflict in Iraq.
As Blair tries frantically to shut out the increasingly disastrous news from Iraq, he begins to be haunted by victims of the seemingly endless war there. In one particularly chilling scene, he has a nightmare that he is carrying the corpse of a young Iraqi boy killed in the fighting. As the aforementioned "Lady Macbeth" scene demonstrates, this is a man with a lot on his conscience.
The Trial of Tony Blair taps into the deep vein of public dissatisfaction with the war. Whatever the Prime Minister's protestations to the contrary, it is the catastrophe in Iraq that will be his legacy.
I am on the set of The Trial of Tony Blair at Loseley House, a splendid 1562 country pile outside Guildford, which is doubling for Chequers. I am watching a tense scene in which Brown agonises over whether or not to block the indictment of Blair. Extras dressed as police patrol the grounds, and a props van on the driveway is filled with protestors' placards proclaiming: "Tony Blair: war criminal, no matter where he lives." Google vids.

Items, including ceramic statues that have been used in pagan ceremonies can also carry evil with them. Some clothes can also. These can invite demons into your home. You invite them in along with these items. If you have any - get rid of them.

Military Draft?

For what?

“It is better to take a smaller force than to lower your standards,” said Lawrence Korb, a former senior Pentagon personnel official now affiliated with the Center for Defense Information and the Center for American Progress.

“The current use of ground forces in Iraq represents a complete misuse of the all-volunteer military,” he said.

The all-volunteer force was never designed for a protracted ground war, but that is exactly what it faces, he said.

“If the United States is going to have a significant component of its ground forces in Iraq over the next five, 10, 15 or 30 years, then the responsible course is for the president and those supporting this open-ended and escalated presence in Iraq to call for reinstating the draft.” Marine Times

Now why would he offer those kind of time lines, it couldn't have anything to do with Seven-Hundred-Ten by any chance?

A Friendly Giant, Bent Cops, Justice Too Late

Never look to the law for justice or to the police for protection.
This case had it all, forced confession, bent coppers, bent forensic evidence , withholding evidence and knowingly convicting an innocent man who went on to spend sixteen years in jail.
If there were one iota of justice in this world both DCI Richard (Dick) Holland, and forensic scientist Doctor Ronald Outteridge would have taken Kiszko's place in the slammer, but there ain't and they didn't.

As part of his condition Stefan Kiszko would have been physically incapable of the sex crime of which he was convicted. Something which was never disclosed to his defence...

The brutal killing outraged local people. In December 1975, detectives arrested and charged Stefan Kiszko, a tax clerk from Rochdale who had never been in trouble with the law. After two days of questioning he signed a confession. He later complained that the confession had been bullied out of him but was convicted of murder and jailed for life.
Fourteen years later his lawyer urged the Home Office to reopen the case, which was then referred back to West Yorkshire police.
New inquiries showed that semen found on Lesley's body contained heads of sperm. Mr Kiszko, however, was infertile.

British police have a dishonourable history of pinning murders on the ‘local nutter’,

A blogger named Postman Patel has more on the case and the bent bastards that stitched Kiszko up.
