Feingold And The Elf Berate Dems on Cave In

I may have been a little harsh Kucinich in previous posts for he does talk a fair bit of sense but I think when a person yap yaps on every subject under the sun he loses credibility.

I can only liken him to Alex Jones who himself talks a fair bit of sense but again we see credibility go out the window due to excessive yap. (and some fairly sensational claims)

Talk sense or not I think both these characters have put themselves in the public's eye in such a manner that for anyone to associate themselves with either is, to put it mildly, a political no no. Story

The Ronster Names New Third Driver

1024 x 768

Ron (Ronster) Dennis not content with the already "Dream Team" of drivers at McClaren Mercedes signed a world renown superstar as third driver, when interviewed about her feelings joining such a prestigious team the Booper had this to say.

Race time 1300 GMT, can young golden bollocks pull off his first win?
It can't be easy for young Hamilton, all the press hype, his own success and having to appear humble, there will be plenty of peeps around the paddock that positively hate him. let's see if he can bring one home today.

Then take it over to Croooks & Liars, a good choice of clips available, Maher/Ron Paul/Michael Moore and others.

More proposals from our wonderful police state.

Still more.

Dawkins on Child Abuse

Again I'm not up to stringing many words together but Dawkin's gives a quintessential English take on the way of things, this article probably demonstrates better than anything the difference between American and English cultures.

Who Would Jesus Bomb

WASHINGTON -- Following complaints by a government watchdog group, the Air Force and the Army partially distanced themselves yesterday from a three-day evangelical Christian event this weekend at a Georgia theme park.

No not that kind, this kind.

I had to smile at this article that I came across in a sidebar, judging from the rest of the stories I wouldn't think armour would go amiss, sounds kinda wild down there.

Pentagon: No Blueprint For Withdrawal But Plenty For Staying

Now doesn't that come as a big surprise?

"We have published no orders directing the planning for the overall withdrawal of forces," Pace replied. "We do have ongoing replacements of forces, and we do change the size of the force over time so that that system is available to either plus-up or draw down, but we have published no orders saying come up with a complete plan for total drawdown." more

What Planet Is bush On?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush warned Thursday that Iraq must repay the sacrifice of US soldiers with real progress, as Congress got set to pass a new war budget stripped of Democratic withdrawal timetables.

Read another bit of Bush's realism in the lefthand sidebar on this blog.

Ah yes, the "Benchmarks" again, and oh yes crackdown on the militias, anybody want to show them how to it?

The compromise between Democrats and the White House contains the first congressionally-imposed political and security "benchmarks" the Iraqi government will be required to meet or risk losing economic aid.

The 18 requirements include demands for a crackdown on militias, the need to train to Iraqi troops, the launching of constitutional review processes, and ensuring the fair distribution of Iraq's hydrocarbon riches. more

How Will They Destroy Ron Paul?

Let's hope it's not the historical way, treading on big toes gets you a bullet in the head from some "crackpot assassin" but I think there is little fear of that these days, after all that's what the press is there for.

You see, it doesn’t matter if Paul wins or not. What matters is that he is delivering a message that is damaging to America’s biggest powerbrokers---and they don’t like it. They would rather he just shut up and go away. They’ve heard enough about the Military Commissions Act, and martial law, and the fraudulent war on terror. They’ve put a lot of energy into the new American police state and they aren’t about to let some “no account” libertarian destroy all their hard work.

Right now, the right wing think tanks are probably buzzing like a hornets nest. They have their work cut out for them. The sleeves are rolled up, the ash trays are full, and America’s best propagandists are working out the details for a full-blown assault on Ron Paul. They want to take him down now, before he can cause any more trouble. more

Sisters of Mercy: Magdalene Laundries

Please take the time to study this updated post for I would like to introduce you to a documentary at the end of this that sheds further light on the shameful goings on in the Magdalene Laundries, the rank hypocrisy of the Catholic Church and the dangers of the unholy alliance of church and state.

Film: The Magdalene Sisters.

Before I elaborate let me give you the opinion of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property. needless to say a Catholic organisation.

From their webpage concerning the film

In the supercharged atmosphere of the abuse scandals, Peter Mullan’s film The Magdalene Sisters is a sensationalist melodrama that only adds fuel to the fire.

Through the use of pungent emotionalism and hyperbole, the movie develops a style that becomes hard to classify. It is called a semi-fictionalized true account but the distinction between fiction and reality appear constantly blurred. It is billed as a scathing social commentary but it is laden with stereotyped depictions devoid of any nuance. Its shoddy theology ignores the basics of any kind of Catholic spirituality.

Indeed Mr. Mullan’s portrayal of the Catholic reformatory could not be more merciless. He treats the sisters with all the cruelty that he imagines they treated the girls under their care. The convent becomes a ruthless slave labor camp complete with its evil warden, sadistic guards and wronged convicts. The Mother Superior is a greedy fiend counting piles of money made from the toil of the unfortunate girls. It is easy to see why Vatican radio characterized the film as an “angry and rancorous provocation.”

“I was appalled to read how every nun, priest or person in authority was presented as evil,” commented America Needs Fatima director Robert Ritchie who is coordinating the protest. “It seems to ignore all the good that nuns have done throughout the centuries.”

I am aware that neither the movie nor the link is exactly hot off the press but the subject matter of the dark days of Irish Catholicism and it's lasting effects is not something that is a stranger to me.

If you have never watched the film you could do worse than to try and seek it out at the video store. Rather than me try to explain the goings on in the Magdalene Laundries, that task is already done in this flash. The text accompanying the images will give you a good insight into the long shameful history of Ireland and the accepted institute of the Laundries.

Although there still exists great pockets of piety in Irish society, Ireland as a whole has done more to enlighten itself over the last three decades than it has over the last three centuries, helped in doing so, more by those that would try to maintain the status quo and their grasp on power and influence, the boy buggerers, the Catholic Church.

I have talked to numerous people who, though outwardly might continue to go through the motions expected of them in a Catholic society, now reject all the influence and control that the church would have previously held over their lives, the rejection almost universally resulting in the making public the decades of sexual abuse by the priesthood.

There is short footage from the film here,

So now having a small insight to the Laundries dark history and read how an American Catholic organisation goes about attacking the film and defending the good Sisters of Mercy, (this post was originally entitled "Idolaters And Boy Buggerers Defend The Indefensible") OK non too subtle I will grant you, let me then introduce this fifty minute documentary based solely on the first hand experiences of the participants. There is a lot of original footage of mid Twentieth Century Ireland and the Laundry institutions themselves.

And this is not to say, that I think the Yanks are the biggest bunch of terrorists on the planet.

I have removed the accompanying rant from the end.

Shorter: profiling is justified in security situations.

Diary of a Christian Terrorist

Things are a bit slow on the old newsfront today but there is this via Huffpo. Check out the guy's Myspace page and some of his rantings, it's all a too juvenile for me. (aren't they all)

Hard to decide if he was batshit crazy before or after he got religion.

I've come to the conclusion that I am insane. I work at school, I work at work, I work at home, I rarely have fun, and if I do anything at all in my free time I think about things that if I do anything about them it will make them worse, which is why I only get 1-4 hours sleep, if I'm lucky. I can't wait to actually use my BS training because, now, life is a frustrating cycle of BS. Hooah!

Smoking Ban: Winners and Losers

Story.

A Repressed Homosexual, Strange Fellow

Initially I thought this was going to be another tale of Christian fundy repression, but this from a Hollywood gay! it's a funny old world.
Read the comments, there are still plenty of repressed about.

Odd little stories like these are seldom born out of a specific search, I came across something the other day that offered this about the American psyche

The key ingredients of this scapegoating campaign are of course sex and children. "Nowhere," wrote Linda Williams in Children and Sex (1993), "is sexuality more feared in America than in the lives of children."

Again if you read some of the comments, it makes me wonder what these people fear most, as stated above, or something a bit more fundamental in themselves.

Bikinis for babies? Is this really appropriate? It is for Elizabeth Hurley, who designed and just unveiled the sexy swimwear for kids. We'll have to buy some matching ho bathing suits for Denise Richards and her daughters! Web page

There Is No Such Thing As A Moral....

"Manners before morals." Wilde.

"There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written."

The words of my long dead mentor, the darling Oscar Wilde. So I employ a variance of Oscar's wisdom and say there is no such thing as (Political) correctness or incorrectness. Stuff* is well written or badly written.

And isn't that the trouble with PC, everybody these days frightened to death about saying the wrong thing, creative writing has no greater enemy than Political (race/sex) correctness.

Quite obviously, this inhibiting factor, was recognised as such by the man I am going to introduce you to, Fred Reed, and having recognised it Reed must have decided to keep it bay with a very long stick.
In truth, before this morning a total stranger to me, but I was made aware of this fellow via a daily email I receive featuring the less reported, but no less important goings on in the world.

The email link I received was to an article entitled by Reed simply as "America" although the sender had reflected on the content and entitled the article, "Why the US Government is hated all over the world."

I shall link to it shortly, in fact I shall link to the front page of "Fred's blog" simply because there are other little gems well worth the reading, not least the very next article "Defending West Virginia" written with no little humour and a great deal of understanding as to the ways of the inhabitants of that particular piece of geography.

But it would be unfair to single out the WV story, for I took the pleasure reading all on the current page, all worthy pieces.

So let me offer up Reed's bio, the guy has crossed a few rivers in his time, and as such the more rivers you cross, the more you know about crossing rivers.

The bio was taken from "Fred on Everything" which I have yet to explore, but not to be confused "Fred's Blog" where reside the articles that I have mentioned.

*A deliberate choice of this all encompassing word.

Then as now, the cops, no bloody sense of humour.
