The macho super patriots who support the Bush regime still haven't caught on that US superpower status rests on the dollar being the reserve currency, not on a military unable to occupy Baghdad. If the dollar were not the world currency, the US would have to earn enough foreign currencies to pay for its 737 oversees bases, an impossibility considering America's $800 billion trade deficit.
When the dollar ceases to be the reserve currency, foreigners will cease to finance the US trade and budget deficits, and the American Empire along with its wars will disappear overnight. Perhaps Bush will be able to get a World Bank loan, or maybe one from the "Chavez bank," to bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Even America's British allies regard President Bush as a threat to world peace and the second most dangerous man alive. Bush is edged out in polls by Osama bin Laden, but is regarded as more dangerous than Iran's demonized president and North Korea's Kim Jong-il.
Clearly, America's leader and America's currency are poorly regarded. Is there a solution?more

Don’t you think H it is the power of conditioning (one of my first lessons), a perfect dictatorship, and not acting or propaganda.
As alien and as unbelievable as it might seem to us in the west, I'm totally convinced that it is quite genuine.
ReplyDeleteI think I have the right documentary here, but a quick synopsis.
Sister A goes through everything imaginable and risks her very life to flee NK. Ends up in Vietnam or SK, I can't remember.
After a year or two sister A has saved enough money to get sister B successfully out by the same underground route.
After a period of time sister B wants to go back to NK, with all the associated risks, because she, sister B, can't hack the disrespectful way the SKs? talk about the 'Dear leader.'
Well worth watching, and not just for that.

But what I can't get my head around is the TOTAL job that Kim Jong-il did on the population.
I could perhaps understand it had he given them Utopia, but all he gave them was misery, starvation, fear and death et al.
They should be in the streets rejoicing rather than going through the genuine grief that they are honestly displaying.
My opinion of the situation only.
Mothers and library day today, so later then.

I'm watching leveson at the mo, was rather hoping to see Piers Morgan before I went out.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the link will work for you.

That which is up at the moment is hardly what I would call critical testimony.
Let me know if it works for you.

Hi Himself,
ReplyDeleteI too am totally convinced that it is quite genuine.
as for the link:
"This content doesn't seem to be working. Try again later"
I will.

ReplyDeleteThe announcement followed a meeting of foreign affairs and security ministers including Defence Minister Kim Kwan-Jin, who said earlier the government would reconsider the plan to display Christmas lights in view of the situation.
The communist North had furiously objected to the displays on three towers, which were to be switched on Friday, calling it "psychological warfare" by its capitalist neighbour.

A hopeless situation, don't these people have nothing better to do? M
I mean "something better", I think.
ReplyDeletedo nothing, don't something
A hopeless situation and this time I cannot blame it on the English grammar.
Good Night M
When I first read this bit:
ReplyDeleteThe communist North had furiously objected to the displays on three towers, which were to be switched on Friday, calling it "psychological warfare" by its capitalist neighbour.
I thought it was in light of Dear Leader croaking. But reading that this was pre-passing of the sainted one. I don't know what to say.
Other than perhaps, that the SKs leave them switched off as a mark of respect, (even if disingenuous) making the first move in establishing a new dialogue with the North.
It can't do any harm can it? The sky isn't going to fall down for want of a few (fuck you lot in the North) lights.
You were right first time; these people have nothing better to do.
As I say, what's few lights? Not quite the same as Floyd's Wall Tour are they?
By the by, I saved this for you last night, I thought it said an awful lot.
ReplyDelete....Christine Ahn, if you could continue with this history lesson that Professor Chung-in Moon began for us, especially for people here in the United States. You know the lack of geographical awareness of people here. We live in an insulated world—a globalized world, but we’re very insulated in the United States. What do you feel it’s most important to understand about North Korea in a global context?

It just so happens Korea gets featured a little in this clip.
''Lack of geographical awareness''
Yes Amy.

ReplyDeletePerhaps the young and "not able to study" people can be forgiven, but some elderly people are quite shocking.
Q: "What are Hiroshima and Nagasaki famous for?"
A: "Judo-wrestling".
Although, the question is a bit misleading, "famous"?
And this one: "Al-Qaeda is a wing of the Masonic Order".
It could be funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

No me neither Maren, but then it's a funny old world.
ReplyDeleteIs anybody that tall?
Let me change that.
