I run the risk of sounding smug here, but we natives think things are getting quite bad. By comparison I suppose the total number of homicides could be less than Bumfuck Georgia, statistics to die for you might say.
According to provisional Home Office figures, there were 58 firearms-related homicides in 2006-07 compared with 49 in the previous year. That is an increase of 18% in just one year. If we include airguns, the number of homicides in 2006-07 rises to 61. There were 413 firearms incidents that resulted in serious injury - more than one a day. more
I think those stats are true for about two years in Canada. We might be overly polite conflict-a-phobes, but at least we aren't gunning eachother down!
ReplyDeleteHello Jack Toronto, an interesting site you have there. I shall take a look in a moment, but I do hope I'm not talking to a tin of spam.
ReplyDeleteHow are things in the old town? It was 1967 when I first lived there, straight of the boat with my new bride. Toronto was always spotless back then, always safe, there wasn't anywhere downtown that you couldn't walk at night.
Some updated stats for you.
The US has well over 250 million guns in private hands according to the National Rifle Association. That is more, according to the BBC, than any country in the world. In one year, guns murdered 17 people in Finland, 35 in Australia, 39 in England and Wales, 60 in Spain, 194 in Germany, 200 in Canada and 9,484 in the United States according to the Brady Campaign.
