No Extension For Detention Without Charge

A cross-party committee of MPs and peers has opposed government plans to detain terror suspects without charge beyond 28 days.

A report by the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) concludes that there is not enough evidence to justify extending the detention time.

The decision is a setback to Prime Minister Gordon Brown's plans to double detention to 56 days......
Mr Dismore described the process as "offensive both to the basic principles of natural justice as we know it and to British ideas of fair play". more

Hear hear old chap, kind of puts five years in Gitmo in perspective.
